Abstract

This chapter addresses the critical role of supervisory human–machine interaction (HMI) in the effective energy management of hybrid renewable energy systems. It begins by presenting a comprehensive modeling framework of a hybrid system combining photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, batteries, and electrical loads. A hybrid control and energy management strategy is then developed to optimize power flow and enhance system stability. Central to this work is the design and implementation of a user-friendly HMI built using MATLAB App Designer and integrated with a Simulink model. The interface allows real-time monitoring of power outputs, DC bus voltage, and battery state of charge, while providing interactive controls for load adjustment and simulation management. The seamless integration between the HMI and the control system facilitates improved decision-making and operational flexibility. Finally, the chapter highlights the importance of such supervisory interfaces in advancing the reliability and efficiency of renewable energy systems, and suggests pathways for future enhancements involving adaptive and remote control features.
