Modeling and Simulation of Triple Junction Solar Cell-Based Photovoltaic Water Pumping
Abstract
In this work, a high-efficiency photovoltaic water pumping system is conceived, modelled, implemented and validated in Matlab/Simulink environment. The system is made up of a triple junction photovoltaic generator, a centrifugal pumping system, and a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) supplied with a three-phase inverter chosen as a pump driver. As a motor drive decoupling strategy, the field oriented control approach is adopted. Three control loops make up the traditional vector control strategy: a speed loop control, two loops for the stator current components of the PMSM. In most cases, the reference quadrature stator flux is obtained from the speed controller. However, the reference direct stator flux is typically set to zero values in many applications. However, issues arose if the application required the high-speed mode. Consequently, a vector control technique and a field weakening region algorithm are developed in this study. The designed system and all control algorithms are implemented in Matlab/Simulink environment. At various speeds, including the two working modes at standard test conditions, significant results are presented and analyzed.
