Abstract

This chapter examines the expanding role of drones in modern manufacturing by outlining their contributions to real-time inspection, environmental monitoring, and quality assurance. The chapter explains how drones equipped with optical, thermal, and gas-sensing technologies enhance operational visibility, detect anomalies, and strengthen regulatory compliance. It further discusses how drone-generated data supports digital twins, predictive maintenance, and smart-factory integration. Key considerations related to safety, workforce transformation, risk management, and implementation strategies are highlighted. Overall, the chapter demonstrates how drone-enabled systems are transforming manufacturing into a safer, more efficient, and data-driven industrial environment.
