Gamified Religious Tourism
Abstract
In order to improve rtourist experiences and maximise spatial flow throughout sacred geographies, this study explores the practical integration of gamification techniques into religious tourism. Religious tourism can be made more interesting, instructive, and sustainably managed by including gaming components, such as point-based pilgrim paths, digital badges for site completion, mythology-based quests, and AR-enabled temple tours. Important Indian holy sites, including Vrindavan, Barsana, and Nandgaon, are the subject of the study. Through qualitative case studies, interviews with pilgrims, tourism officials, and app developers, this research proposes a framework for gamified religious tourism that respects sacredness while incorporating technology for improved visitor management. The findings suggest that gamification can serve not just as a tool for entertainment but as a transformative medium for preserving religious heritage, promoting balanced tourism, and engaging new generations of pilgrims.
