Abstract

This chapter examines the critical intersection of foundational ethical theories and contemporary marketing practice, arguing for their essential role in navigating the digital economy's complexities. It moves beyond theoretical abstraction to demonstrate how utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics, and justice theory provide actionable lenses for analyzing pervasive challenges, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, influencer marketing, and sustainability claims. The analysis establishes that ethical reasoning is a strategic imperative, directly contributing to trust, brand equity, and long-term competitive advantage. Furthermore, the chapter synthesizes these theories into a unified, multi-layered framework for ethical decision-making, integrating normative principles with business realities. It concludes that cultivating an ethical marketing culture is not merely a defensive measure but a core driver of innovation, resilience, and sustainable value creation in a transparent global marketplace.
