Abstract

The inclusion of Deaf communities in technology development is essential for creating accessible and culturally sensitive solutions; however, challenges remain in ensuring their active participation. This study proposes and validates an Active Model for Co-Building Apps with Deaf Users to facilitate their involvement in the design, development, and adoption of tailored technological solutions through user workshops. A participatory virtual workshop was conducted in four phases—Preparation, Implementation, Development, and Results—which incorporated visual communication methods, sign language interpreters, accessible resources, and hands-on activities. Participants developed, installed, and shared functional mobile application prototypes, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in fostering technical skills, creativity, and autonomy. The Active Model proves to be an effective strategy for co-creating inclusive technologies with Deaf users, ensuring culturally appropriate solutions and contributing to the digital and social inclusion of the community.
