Abstract

This chapter explores how Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming assessment and feedback in education through Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS). As learning shifts toward more personalized, inclusive, and data-driven approaches, GenAI enables real-time adaptive feedback, conversational learning, and dynamic assessment tailored to individual needs. It examines the integration of GenAI technologies—like natural language processing—into ITS architectures to create personalized, context-aware evaluations. Ethical concerns such as bias, transparency, and inclusion are addressed, emphasizing the need for human-AI collaboration. Case studies from K–12, higher education, and vocational training highlight practical applications. The chapter also discusses how GenAI, supported by learning analytics and formative assessment, can move evaluation beyond summative tests toward continuous, learner-centered progress tracking. Ultimately, GenAI is presented as a powerful tool for deeper learning and meaningful feedback—provided it is developed responsibly and with strong educator engagement.
