An Integrative Model of Senior Entrepreneurship in the Silver Economy
Abstract
This integrative review examines senior entrepreneurship through a comprehensive analysis of academic and institutional literature, with a particular focus on OECD economies and the silver economy context. It highlights the profound heterogeneity of entrepreneurial trajectories at later stages of life, shaped by individual resources, motivational profiles, and institutional environments. Drawing on the Resource-Based View and lifespan-oriented approaches, the chapter introduces the concept of mature resources, emphasizing the dynamic configuration of human, social, and financial capital among older entrepreneurs. The analysis also explores systemic barriers and enabling factors, including social protection systems, age-related discrimination, and policy frameworks. Finally, the chapter discusses implications for public policy and entrepreneurial support practices, contributing to a more nuanced and integrative understanding of senior entrepreneurship.
