Abstract

This chapter examines how digital transformation and governance quality jointly shape cross-border maternity healthcare decisions. While digital platforms have democratized access to global obstetric services, variations in institutional quality determine whether these technologies translate into patient trust and safe outcomes. Using data from approximately 190 countries between 1996 and 2023, this chapter integrates World Governance Indicators with maternal mortality ratios to reveal that governance strength—particularly in regulatory quality, rule of law, and corruption control—correlates strongly with maternal safety. The analysis shows that nations with high governance indices maintain both low maternal mortality and robust digital maternity ecosystems, while those with weak institutions experience elevated risks despite technological adoption.
