Drill Baby Drill
Abstract
In 2025, President Trump said in his inauguration speech at the US Capitol that we will “drill, baby, drill.” This remark was the beginning of the US retreat from the clean energy transition and the revival of US fossil fuel energy production and consumption. This study explores the nature of this development, the potential benefits, criticisms, challenges, and the global implications. The author shows that the drill baby drill executive order has the potential to increase oil and gas production in the US, increase energy independence for the US, create more jobs for Americans, lower energy prices, reduce inflation, and maintain the US global leadership in energy markets. However, several domestic, regional, and global risks abound, which need to be mitigated.
