Abstract

The convergence of carbon pricing and Industry 4.0 technologies is reshaping sustainable manufacturing. Carbon taxes and cap-and-trade systems create financial incentives to reduce emissions, but their success depends on effective monitoring and management. Digital technologies such as IoT, AI, big data analytics, blockchain, and digital twins enable real-time process optimization, transparent emissions tracking, and data-driven decision-making. These tools enhance the operational impact of carbon pricing by supporting predictive analytics and automated control, lowering compliance costs, and improving participation in carbon markets. Evidence from steel, automotive, and electronics sectors highlights both the competitive advantages and implementation challenges of digital–carbon integration, underscoring the importance of aligned policy and technology strategies.
