Abstract

Research methodology underpins scientific studies, guiding data collection, analysis, and interpretation across disciplines. It includes approaches like quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods, and systematic literature reviews (SLRs), each suited to specific research goals such as hypothesis testing or exploring human experiences. The chapter emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate methods to ensure research integrity and credibility. It explains the systematic review process, involving defining research questions with frameworks like PICO or SPIDER, developing protocols, comprehensive searches across databases, applying strict inclusion/exclusion criteria, data extraction, quality assessment (using tools like PRISMA), and synthesizing findings. SLRs reduce bias, ensure comprehensive coverage, and identify research gaps, aiding evidence-based decision-making. Despite challenges like being resource-intensive and time-consuming, they are vital for consolidating knowledge and guiding future research.
