Abstract

This chapter investigates different approaches, methods, and technologies implemented in waste management and resource utilization, emphasizing local industrial systems. As sustainable practices become the norm and green technologies are enforced by stricter environmental regulations, we in Malaysia have started to see local industries adopting intelligent waste management, which not only reduces wastage but also becomes a source of revenue. This chapter on Waste-to-Resource practices also covers the modern waste management scenario and principles of the Circular economy. It approaches resource efficiency measures, with a couple of case studies demonstrating how these approaches have been integrated into local industries. The intention is to give researchers and relevant industrial practitioners a complete view of the holistic resource management systems that are applicable to different local industrial contexts. The chapter highlights the technology, policy framework, and stakeholder engagement required to ingrain sustainable practices in different sectors.
