Abstract

This chapter provides a brief summary of emerging trends in the field of assistive technology. It focuses primarily on the implementation of interventions based on neurorehabilitation using adaptive BCI, IoT, and cloud technologies. Changes due to AI-powered BCIs in the rehabilitation field are precipitated by the provision of personalized therapy in real time. Cloud computing provides scalable storage and remote access to data. On the flip side, IoT connections can enable interaction between neural devices and external systems, such as wearable sensors, environment settings in smart homes, and sensorized robotic prosthetics. The chapter also speaks on how adaptive BCIs can promote neuroplasticity and improve the outcome for the patients. It considers data privacy, interoperability with other systems and compliance. By integrating existing research and clinical applications, this chapter delineates the transformation of neurorehabilitation through smart and connected BCI systems into a responsive, flexible, and patient-centric system.
