Abstract

This chapter examines the transformative potential of AI-powered augmented reality (AI-AR) in advancing inclusive local governance, particularly for marginalized communities. Despite growing digitalization in public administration, structural inequalities continue to limit meaningful participation, transparency, and access to public services for disadvantaged groups. The chapter explores how the integration of artificial intelligence with augmented reality can enhance citizen engagement, simplify administrative processes, improve service delivery, and strengthen accountability at the local level. Drawing on concepts from inclusive governance, digital public administration, and social justice, the chapter analyzes applications of AI-AR in participatory planning, welfare delivery, grievance redressal, and capacity building of local institutions. It also critically examines ethical, legal, and implementation challenges, offering policy-oriented recommendations for responsible and equitable adoption of immersive technologies in local governance systems.
