Abstract

This chapter discusses the addition of a new model to the university framework. The Comprehensive Student Success Model (CSSM) views higher education as a transformative ecosystem of belonging, engagement, and continuous learning. Located in systems thinking, design innovation, and equity-based governance, the CSSM combines the four interdependent domains (i.e., access, engagement, support, and transition) for the purpose of student flourishing. With examples from the United Kingdom, Canada, Malaysia, and Finland, the chapter exemplifies the intersection of human-centered design, ethical data stewardship, and cross-sector partnerships to exemplify inclusive excellence in higher education. It frames student success as more than a data point for the institution; it is a vision centered on empowerment, resilience, and transformative change. For CSSM, participating in this model means the university is committed to being a flexible and caring institution that not only helps learners to graduate but also to become valued members of society and contribute throughout their lives.
