Abstract

This chapter considers the impact of Artificial Intelligence on teachers' and students' roles within Cambodia's higher education system and makes the case for pedagogy-led, ethics-first integration of AI tools within the education system. It posits that educators will need to shift from being content repositories to becoming learning architects and facilitators. Students will also need to shift from being passive consumers of AI tools to being active collaborators who use and engage with AI tools responsibly and reflectively. This chapter makes the case for institutions to incorporate ethical, AI education, and digital equity frameworks to balance and align with available national policies to ensure the sustainable use of AI. This will help ensure that system strengthen the human capacity for self-governance and cultural ingenuity in the presence of AI toward operationalization the human judgment first, AI second notion to foster responsible innovation.
