Abstract

Academic libraries are crucial for research, teaching, and learning processes. In today's digital age, academic libraries adapt to new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to provide their patrons with better service and user experience. Using AI applications, academic libraries gain a powerful strategy to enhance services, provide users access to reliable information, and spur growth and development in this current era of information. There are various ways through which AI applications are utilized in academic libraries, primarily in the major areas of reference services, cataloging and classification, and circulation services. Adopting AI applications in academic libraries comes with challenges, including ethical issues, high investment costs, and resistance to technology. This chapter recommends that higher education institution administrators and librarians ensure that the advantages of AI applications outweigh the challenges.
