Abstract

This chapter examines Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) within Singapore's correctional system, focussing specifically on youth and women offenders, who are two distinct populations with a higher number of ACEs as compared to the general population. These populations demonstrate trauma profiles and rehabilitation needs that align with findings in international literature, warranting targeted intervention approaches. Understanding the needs of the two specialised populations, Singapore Prison Service adopts a tailored approach to address the responsivity factor in rehabilitation. Through analysis of international research and local evidence, including the implementation of the T-care framework by SPS, we explore how trauma-informed practices can enhance rehabilitation outcomes for these vulnerable populations.
