Abstract

This chapter proposes a structural model of Perceptual Intelligence in Human-Centered Interactive Technologies with an emphasis on emotionally aligned design as a new form of interaction. Conventional human-centered design is largely concerned with the usability and functionality, and disregards the subtle relationship between human perception, cognition, and emotion. Perceptual intelligence builds upon this method through incorporation of multi-modal data into systems to recognize user states and adjust system behavior based on a set of models that interprets user states. The model is organized into hierarchical parts: data retrieval, perception modelling, emotion mapping, adaptive interaction and learning feedback. It emphasizes the ways in which technologies can go beyond transactional efficiency to empathetic, trust-centered and personalized experiences. The framework serves as both a conceptual framework and roadmap to the construction of emotionally intelligent systems by connecting design, psychology, and AI
