Abstract

In this chapter, the concept of flourishing is defined in terms of individual values and interconnections. The authors propose that aligning the ideal of flourishing with society's current approach to learning requires a grounding in systems thinking, particularly living systems principles. Addressing not only intellectual, but also affective needs of learners is considered in the application of living systems principles to the creation of learning sanctuaries and other opportunities to promote belonging. These concepts are considered against the backdrop of the challenges and opportunities inherent in a digital age.
