Virtue as Applied to Digital Learning
Abstract
This chapter analyzes opportunities students, in digital environments, have to grow in and apply virtue. The authors of the chapter, who work at a faith-based institution, share their observations and insights as they have actively sought to assist with the promotion of flourishing and growth in learners at their university within the Digital Age. The beginning of the chapter will provide readers with an overview of terms used within the chapter (e.g., virtue, flourishing, personal vocation) as connected to postsecondary outcomes or goals. Next, we will highlight information about technology and the impact it can have on virtue building followed by a section on personal vocation. We will then provide a reflection on encouraging students to be critical consumers as they engage in prudence with regards to use of technology in the learning environment and will conclude the chapter with a call to action.
