Abstract

Population growth and socio-economic development, combined with the effects of climate change, are contributing to severe water scarcity in the Souss-Massa basin. This critical situation highlights the need for new management approaches based on system dynamics for a better understanding of the complex interactions of water resources. This chapter focuses on the development of a system dynamics model to analyze the hydro-socio-economic problems associated with water consumption in the Souss-Massa basin, offering potential solutions to ensure the sustainability of water resources. The results underline the urgency of changing consumer behavior and investing in long-term strategies to prevent and mitigate future water shortages. They also show the importance of a participatory approach integrating eco-responsible practices into the planning of future water management policies in order to inform decision-makers.
