Abstract

This review examined literature on homeless persons with mental disorders, who are among the most vulnerable populations, to identify effective support characteristics, including employment support, and contribute to poverty alleviation. Employment and stable housing are key to ending homelessness and achieving independence, but few studies have sufficiently investigated this group's living conditions. An electronic literature search using keywords homeless, mental disorder, and employment was conducted. Data on participant demographics and employment outcomes were compiled to characterize the population and understand employment's role. The review found that effective support includes individualized, comprehensive, and flexible interventions, education and skill provision, and fostering supportive networks. Further research is needed to understand this population and develop effective solutions.
