Abstract

This study applies the Node-Place Model to 18 selected stations in Klang Valley, with the aim of examining the role of rail stations using the transport service performance and the diversification and intensification of land use within station areas. To evaluate the node value of the 18 stations, seven key indicators were examined, whereas five indicators were applied to assess the place index value, measuring the quantity and diversity of human activities within the station area catchment. The results highlight that USJ 7 and Sungai Besi stations recorded the highest node scores (0.87), while Kuala Kubu Bharu holds the lowest (0.21). USJ 7 was classified as a “stressed” station, whereas Sungai Besi Station was categorised as an “unbalanced node”. For place values, Monorail Raja Chulan Station achieved the highest score (0.95), indicating an “unbalanced place”, while Kuala Kubu Bharu Station recorded the lowest (0.10), qualifying as a “dependence” station.
