Abstract

Dear Editor, I read with interest the cross-sectional study on emotional intelligence among adolescents in Government Schools in Kerala published recently.[1] I would like to suggest a few additions to this article regarding emotional intelligence and academic performance. Emotional intelligence is a set of multifaceted soft skills, which comprised (a) emotional acumen and interpretation, (b) emotional concern, (c) emotional statute, and (d) the proper management and blending of emotions into reasoning.[2,3] The schools may encourage virtues such as self-confidence, empathy, and kindness in the students’ mindset, and therefore emotional intelligence has a positive impact on academic performance and emotional well-being of the students.[4,5] Financial support and sponsorship Nil.
