Abstract

Introduction: Neurological disorders have become a major health concern in the modern era. The brain, being the seat of intellect, governs memory, which plays a crucial role in protecting individuals from harm and supporting daily activities. With advancing age, memory impairment or dementia is increasingly prevalent. In Ayurveda, this condition is described as Jarajanya Smritibhramsha (senile dementia). Methods: A case series was conducted on 10 patients aged 60–65 years, suffering from memory loss for the last 2–3 years. Patients were selected from OPD and IPD settings. They presented with symptoms such as forgetting meals, medications, drinks, and routine chores. Each patient was administered Shatavari Ghanavati for a duration of 3 months. In addition, patients were advised daily meditation practices, a suitable diet, and fortnightly counseling sessions. Memory assessment was done using the Mini-Mental State Examination scale. Results: All patients showed notable improvement in memory scores and daily functioning. They demonstrated better compliance with meals, medications, and routine activities. The combination of Shatavari Ghanavati , meditation, dietary modifications, and counseling yielded a synergistic effect in managing Jarajanya Smritibhramsha . Discussion: The outcomes suggest that Shatavari Ghanavati has a promising role in enhancing memory in senile dementia, possibly due to its Medhya (nootropic) and Rasayana (rejuvenative) properties. Adjunct practices such as meditation and counseling further supported mental stability and cognitive improvement. Conclusion : This case series highlights the potential of integrative management with Shatavari Ghanavati , lifestyle modifications, and counseling in improving memory functions among elderly dementia patients.
