Abstract

Neuroblastoma is a solid tumour that occurs more frequently in pediatric populations. It may originate from any part of the sympathetic nervous system but most commonly arises from the paraspinal sympathetic ganglia in the abdomen or mediastinum. Only 8% of cases first present with an orbital lesion and are associated with a poor prognosis. Physical signs as a consequence of orbital metastases, such as proptosis and periorbital ecchymosis, are frequently encountered. Here, we present a case of a 2-year-old girl with neuroblastoma of the mediastinal paravertebral region, along with bilateral orbital metastasis, who presented with proptosis of the right eye as an initial symptom. The histological analysis of the tumour removed from the right orbit confirmed the diagnosis of neuroblastoma.
