Abstract

Dear Editor, Myopia has emerged as a major global public health concern, with its prevalence rising at an alarming rate in recent decades. This growing epidemic is not only an ocular health challenge but also a societal issue. Beyond its physiological implications, myopia has been shown to exert considerable influence on academic performance. Visual clarity is essential for effective learning, classroom participation, and sustained academic engagement. Students with uncorrected or poorly managed myopia may struggle with reading, writing, and digital learning, leading to potential disadvantages in educational achievement. As an area of my interest I read an article authored by flitcroft DI, described classification of myopia [Table 1] on different basis by different authors.[1] Another review paper by Martínez-Albert N describes about various risk factors of myopia [Table 2].[2]Table 1: Myopia classificationTable 2: Myopia Risk factorsMyopia is associated with academic performance which actually is academic achievement of students which is measured in grading system highlighted by Tadese M.[3] Academic performance is did not influenced by obesity, but food habits like eating yogurt and less time in social media have positive impact shown by Aljehani AM.[4] Higher academic performance, indicated by higher PISA (Program in Secondary Assessment) score. Jong M found positive relationship with myopia prevalence. Higher level of education is associated with Myopia.[5] Addressing myopia requires an approach that combines early detection, access to corrective measures, public awareness, and systemic changes in educational and lifestyle practices. By recognizing the clear impact of blurry vision, stakeholders in education and health care can work collaboratively to mitigate its academic and developmental consequences. In doing so, we not only protect visual health but also support the cognitive and educational growth of future generations. Data availability statement Data will be made available on request.
