Endodontic surgical management of failed nonsurgical treatment: Report of a case
Abstract
The goal of root canal therapy is to eliminate any pulp tissue or bacteria from the canal to promote periapical tissue healing and successful root canal filling. Inadequate root canal shaping and cleaning as well as nonhermetic obturation are two factors that contribute to endodontic therapy failure. Conventional endodontic treatment is a very predictable therapeutic technique in most cases, however, in teeth that are refractory to nonsurgical treatments or that have persistent periradicular pathosis, surgery may be necessary. The aim of this report is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the endodontic surgical treatment after the failure of nonsurgical treatment by means of clinical and radiographic follow-ups.
