The Role of Genetics in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedic: A Review of Current Understanding
Abstract
Abstract Genetics in orthodontics is an emerging field of research that delves into the complex interactions between genetic factors and craniofacial development. Orthodontics traditionally relies on mechanical approaches to align teeth and correct jaw discrepancies, but understanding the genetic basis of malocclusions (misalignment of teeth and jaws) opens new avenues for precision and personalised treatment planning. This review highlights current findings, challenges and future directions in integrating genetics into orthodontic practice.
