Abstract

Background Vertebroplasty (VP) is frequently used mostly due to much higher success rates, reduced complication frequency, shorter duration of surgery time, limited sedation, minimal recovery duration, and shorter or absent hospital stays. Aim The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of VP in reducing back pain and enhancing functional status in individuals with painful diseased vertebrae. Patients and methods This retrospective single-arm trial was carried out on 30 adult cases with spinal lesions subjected to VP. Oswestry disability index (ODI), using of the brace, and pain were assessed pre and postoperative. Complications were recorded. Results In all 66.7% of cases showed excellent ODI and cases using brace declined from 93 to 7% after VP. The pain score showed improvement compared with before VP. All cases were done without major or permanent complications, intraoperative leakage occurred in 6.6%. Conclusion VP resulted in a reduction of pain and use of bracing, improvement in ODI with a low incidence of complications. Therefore, VP is a safe and efficient therapy for painful, damaging spinal lesions.
