Predictive value of modified rapid emergency medicine score versus revised trauma score for hospital outcome in polytrauma patients
Abstract
Background The efficient use of time is crucial in the treatment of trauma victims. Both mortality and morbidity can be reduced by providing the right care at the right time. Aim To compare the revised trauma score (RTS) and the modified rapid emergency medicine score (mREMS), two scores were used to predict hospital outcomes in patients who have had multiple traumas, in order to find the best one. Patients and methods This prospective cohort study included 100 trauma patients of both sexes, aged more than 18 years, with an injury or wound caused by external force or violence, and eligibility criteria required at least one of the following: inpatient admission for more than 24 h due to trauma, transferred trauma patients from other local hospitals, or the need for trauma team activation or consultation. Patients were followed for 10 days throughout the hospital admission period. Results There was a significant difference in the mREMS and RTS scores between patients who died and those who improved ( P
