Abstract

The motion characteristics of the IEA 15-MW wind turbine mounted on the VolturnUS-S semi-submersible platform (the state-of-the-art design) were investigated for a range of realistic wind-sea states using OpenFAST that is an open-source tool for aero-hydro-servo-elastic simulations of floating wind turbines. The simulations were conducted under various hub-height wind speeds (6.56-11.91 m/s), turbulence levels (12.3-20.5 %), wave heights (1.51-5.2 m) and periods (8.06-17.5 s), in which the TurbSim tool was used to create shared atmospheric boundary layer inflow. This dataset contains ten investigated cases, which are described in the readme file below.
