Abstract

Micro-randomized trial on the effectiveness and working mechanisms of four ecological momentary intervention exercises. Seventy-two participants with elevated distress engaged in a 16-day micro-randomized trial. Twice daily, they received a cognitive restructuring, acceptance, savoring, or gratitude exercise. Intended processes (positive reappraisal, experiential avoidance, savoring, and gratitude, respectively), as well as positive and negative affect, were assessed proximally using ecological momentary assessment 30 minutes following each exercise. Before and after the intervention phase, all intended processes, as well as well-being and depressive and anxious symptomatology were assessed as distal measures.
