VisioPA-X
Abstract
BACKGROUND: In molecular tumor boards (MTB), cancer cases with limited therapeutic options are discussed to evaluate individual molecularly guided treatment approaches. Identifying crucial disease-relevant events becomes challenging during the limited discussion time per patient. MTB cases typically have a long history of treatments and interventions, often across regions and sectors where precise data is missing. Cancer registry data, collected via mandatory reporting, could potentially complement patient journey data. In MTB, a clear data representation, highlighting key events and providing valuable information for decision making, is essential. METHODS: In a project funded by the dataXperiment program of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, a timeline visualization prototype of the Institute for Digital Health Data RhinelandPalatinate was adapted to patient disease courses in the MTB of the University Cancer Center Mainz (UCT). Visual elements were designed to point out key clinical information relevant to medical and scientific staff. The interactive timeline allows users to explore detailed information by selecting events, zooming, or navigating to the start of disease courses, helping to quickly identify and focus on important periods and events. RESULT: The DACAPO integrated information system of the UCT Mainz, which centralizes information about disease development and molecular data as well as the course of treatment of patients, was connected to an R shiny application that displays the data in an interactive timeline. In the next step, it is planned to include cancer registry data to enrich the DACAPO data. DISCUSSION: VisioPA-X is a visualization software for complex medical data supporting MTB, their preparation and follow-up processes. In the future, it can be improved by integrating different data sources to gain a broader understanding of the case. CONCLUSION: VisioPA-X can improve processes around MTB by providing a clear view of patient histories.
