Financial Stress Survey Wave 2 in 2019
Abstract
Wave 2 uses an anonymous, self-administered online questionnaire similar to Wave 1, targeting adult farmland workers and their household members in the United States. Core measures from the baseline survey are repeated so that changes over time can be observed, including: Family financial stress (perceived financial pressure, difficulty paying bills, concern about debt and income stability); Financial behaviors and resource management (budgeting, saving, borrowing, paying down debt, using formal and informal financial services); Key socio-demographic characteristics (age, gender, education, employment in agriculture, household composition). In addition, Wave 2 introduces several follow-up and refinement items, such as: Questions on how households responded to financial stress since the first survey (coping strategies, behavior changes); Items on interest in and perceived usefulness of financial or behavioral interventions (education programs, counseling, planning support); Optional questions on broader well-being (e.g., stress, family relationships) to provide context for financial outcomes. All responses are collected without direct personal identifiers and stored on secure, institutionally approved servers. Wave 2 thus extends the baseline by providing another cross-sectional snapshot of how the population’s financial stress and behavior evolve over time, and by identifying which groups may benefit most from tailored interventions.
