Abstract

Eight new species of Neoplea are described from central and southern Mexico, N. aenea new species, N. breviscutellum new species, N. centocorpus new species, N. chichimeca new species, N. maurochilus new species, micropunctata new species, N. polhemusi new species, and N. umbraticus new species. Neoplea mexicana Drake and Chapman is the only species that can be confirmed from previous reports from that region. The data provided here suggests that there is much more diversity in this genus to be discovered. The distribution of recognized species is discussed, and an identification key is provided for all known Mexican Neoplea species.
