Separation, identification, and purification OF Cu, Co, and Ti from degraded thermal pigments
Abstract
The metals of copper, titanium and cobalt have been separated from degraded thermal pigments by solvent extraction technique. The ethanol was used as an extractant for organic material. The metal oxides that remained in the residue were dried and prepared for qualitative, quantitative, and phase identification. These metal oxides were obtained from three thermal pigments, which show different colors, namely back, white, and gray, indicating copper oxide, titanium oxide, and cobalt oxide. Purification of copper and cobalt was extracted from their oxides using an electrochemical technique. Titanium oxide has been chlorinated to produce titanium tetrachloride. The latter was distilled in the presence of pure magnesium metal under dry nitrogen in order to produce titanium. KEY WORDS: Copper, Cobalt, Separation, Titanium, Thermal pigments Bull. Chem. Soc.
