Effect of some plant extracts against the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in laboratory and semi-field conditions
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the bioactivity of plant extracts (tomato and pepper) against second-instar larvae of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), under laboratory conditions. Additionally, the LC₅₀ values of each treatment were determined against second-instar larvae under semi-field conditions. The results revealed that tomato extract was more effective than pepper extract. The LC₅₀value for tomato extract was 2676.92 ppm, whereas pepper extract exhibited a higher LC₅₀ value of 8182.40 ppm for secondinstar larvae. Furthermore, when the LC₅₀ concentrations of these plant extracts were applied under semi-field conditions, tomato leaf extract remained more effective than pepper leaf extract.
