Design, synthesis and anti-tubercular activity of N-substituted Quinoline-3- carbaldehyde hydrazone derivatives
Abstract
Tuberculosis is recognized as one of the most formidable health challenges. This study was carried to find the anti-tubercular activity of the novel N-substitutedquinoline-3-carbaldehyde Quinoline hydrazone derivatives. Five N-substitutedquinoline-3-carbaldehyde hydrazone derivatives (4a-e) were synthesized by the multi-component solvent free Betti reaction involving quinoline-3-carbaldehydehydrazones (2a-b), 2-naphthol and different 4-substituted aldehydes. Microplate alamar blue assay (MABA) was performed to evaluate the anti-tubercular activity of the synthesized hydrazones 4a-e. All the compounds showed inhibitory activity against ATP synthase enzyme. The compound 4d showed docking energy with highest negative energy valueand also exhibited significant anti-tubercular activity with MIC value of 0.8 μg/ml. MIC value of the 4d derivative was compared with the standard drug isoniazid, which showed MIC value 1.6 μg/ml. The findings highlight the potential efficacy of the synthesized derivatives as an effective anti-TB agent.
