Abstract

The hydrosystems of the Azagny Canal constitute an area of capital importance in the conservation of the biodiversity of the Azagny National Park. However, they are subject to strong human pressure. In order to determine its ecological quality and the stress state of its ichthyofauna, this study was conducted from March 2019 to February 2020 and made it possible to sample the physicochemical parameters using a probe multiparameter and the concentrations of Lead, Manganese, Iron, Cadmium and Mercury in the sediment following their collection using a Van-Veen bin and their analysis in the laboratory with an atomic absorption spectrometer. Also, the ichthyofauna was sampled using gillnets of variable meshes in order to assess its stress level. In view of the results obtained after data processing, the physicochemical analysis indicates that with the exception of conductivity which varied significantly between a minimum of 1412.2±2786.1µS/Cm at station CA1 and a maximum of 2430.1±3573.7µS/Cm at station CA2, the waters had an ideal temperature (10‰). In terms of growth, 42.1% of fish species showed negative allometric growth while 57.9% showed positive allometric growth. This variation in growth among species in this hydrosystem is strongly linked to environmental degradation and would constitute an ecological risk for their survival.
