Abstract

Cadmium (Cd) is a pervasive environmental pollutant with severe toxic effects on various organs, particularly the kidneys. Consequently, the objective of this paper is to explore the protective effect of naringin against cadmium induced renal toxicity in albino rats using appropriate standard procedures. Data obtained show that the levels of serum urea (mg/dl), serum creatinine (mg/dl), serum potassium (mEq/L), and serum sodium (mEq/L) in the Albino rats after treating with Naringin (Nar), Nar+Cd and Cd were (Nar =35.06 ± 1.00, 2.00 ± 1.00, 1.98 ± 0.10, 126.64 ± 1.00), (Nar+Cd=38.04 ± 1.73, 2.30 ± 0.50, 2.30 ± 0.20, 122.50 ± 1.00 and Cd=42.30 ± 1.73, 2.75 ± 0.50, 2.75 ± 0.25, 120.50 ± 1.00 respectively. Result obtained showed a significant (p 0.05) between control, Nar and Nar + Cd groups. However, there is a significant reduction (p
