Abstract

Pharmacotherapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and persistence of residual symptoms are linked to anxiety. The feelings of fear, uncertainty and associated anxiety as well as their determinants vary widely between patient populations. The current study aims to evaluate the prevalence of BPH residual symptoms, clinical anxiety and its association with demographic factors. This study was carried out among 412 outpatients at Ibrahim Badamasi Specialist Hospital Minna using the Memorial anxiety scale for prostate cancer (MAX-PC) and expanded prostate cancer index composite for clinical practice (EPIC-CP) tools. A residual symptom score of ≥ 9 (EPIC-CP) and anxiety score (MAX-PC) ≥ 27 (MAX-PC) were clinically significant. Chi square test was used to determine associationbetween anxiety and demographic factors. p
