Navigating Digital Finance: How Perceived Ease of Use Drives Cryptocurrency Adoption in Tanzania: A Case of Dar es Salaam City
Abstract
This study used the Technological Acceptance Model (TAM) to examine the influence of perceived ease of use on the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Tanzania, particularly in Dar es Salaam, the nation’s economic hub. The study used structured questionnaires to collect data from 300 participants with adequate knowledge and experience in cryptocurrency. The sample was obtained through simple random sampling, and the data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics via SPSS version 27.0.The study findings demonstrate a weak relationship between perceived ease of use (p-value = 0.065, greater than 0.05) and the adoption of cryptocurrency in Tanzania. Limited statistical significance implies that other variables, such as perceived usefulness, perceived adoption, trust, security, and regulatory concerns, might have had a substantial influence on cryptocurrency adoption in Tanzania. Thus, these results underlined the need to raise public awareness of the benefits and drawbacks of cryptocurrency, simplify its use, and address regulatory and security concerns. This study provides a body of knowledge for understanding cryptocurrency use in emerging markets, such as Tanzania, offering policymakers, financial institutions, and technology developers valuable insights to promote financial inclusion and integrate cryptocurrencies into the broader economic framework.
