The Constitution and Native American Tribes
Abstract
T his volume thus far has examined the division of power within the federal government among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches (separation of powers) and the division of power between the federal government and the state governments (federalism). This chapter explores another division of power that is less familiar to many Americans but no less constitutionally significant—the division of power between the federal government, states, and Native American (Indian) tribal governments.
