Abstract

This chapter focuses on how partnerships can remain a good idea and approach. Partnerships have been around for some time now, and there is evidence that they work well sometimes, and that they sometimes fail or do not go as planned. The knowledge assembled shows a growing interest in partnerships and still more labels in close proximity to partnerships, including collaborative governance, hybridity, and networks. There are enough wicked problems and grand challenges in the world today to make it clear that organizations often want to work more closely together with other organizations and actors. Governments are active in the policy state in seeking and offering policy solutions to what citizens need or require. More policy may mean more privatization, but more policy also means more partnerships. The more areas governments choose to engage with, the more appetite there is for partnerships.
