The Importance of Comfort
Abstract
This chapter is about special considerations of comfort when designing for bodies of size. Being aware of materials that will provide comfort and stability. Fabrics made from natural fibers that will allow air permeability or in other words allows the fabric to breathe are important to avoid overheating and excessive sweating. Fabrics that have stretch or give are important for ease of movement and also facilitate comfort. Understanding unique problems of overheating, chafing, and achieving a smooth fit for bodies of size is crucial in creating a costume that a performer is comfortable in and doesn’t inhabit movement.
