Abstract

Journalism and revolutions have a symbiotic relationship. In order for revolution to flourish, a means of mass communication is necessary to disseminate official information and propaganda. Media may not flourish as a free press in a revolution, but they might at least survive if they cooperate with revolutionary leaders. Of course, a revolution could change the nature of a country’s press as it is difficult for propagandists to become reporters and editors focused on conveying truth. This chapter examines the pressure points on the press that are common across countries and cultures during a revolution.
