Abstract

The global pandemic presented unusual challenges for cities. In this final chapter, the authors summarize some of the main strategies and directions cities explored during the pandemic and the continuing implications of innovative planning and policy choices. The chapter summarizes what worked and why, as well as what specifically cities did to demonstrate the power of nature to soothe, heal, and offer hope and optimism during a period of tremendous upheaval. The chapter emphasizes the primary argument presented in this book that commitments to protecting and restoring nature will be essential in designing healthy and resilient cities in the future .
